On the early evening of Friday, June 6, 2014 ROBERT H. RAMZY III returned to his Lord. Robert III, was born March 18, 1948 in Las Cruces, NM to Robert H. Ramzy Jr and Ruth Mae Ramzy. He was one of six children. He attended primary school at Booker T. Washington Elementary advanced to Junior High and finished high school at Las Cruces High School. As a young adult, he loved to play the piano and sing with the Spiritual Kings. After graduating he attended New Mexico State with a partial scholarship, on the G.I. Bill, and played football and ran track. As a track star, he set a record in the long jump. He finished his graduate studies by earning his Bachelor degree in Social Welfare. Robert started basic training at Fort Bliss and left for Vietnam in 1968 at the tender age of 19.He served two terms of military service in which one year was a tour during the Vietnam War. Although Robert was wounded in Vietnam from shrapnel, which was embedded into his arm, he was not awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1969.

Robert married Nora Reed on January 8, 1972 in Las Cruces, NM. During their 23 years marriage, they had four children, Robert H. Ramzy IV, Mwenda Uhuru Ramzy, Omar Ramzy and Bashir Ramzy. Robert was the first African American Equal Employment Officer for the City of Las Cruces as noted in a press release. He relocated his family to Dallas, TX in 1980 where he devoted his time to Social Work and Mental Health and Mental Retardation for Dallas County for many years prior to moving back to Las Cruces. While back in Las Cruces he cared for his father until his death earlier this year in March.

Robert loved to attend church, sing, mingle with people, and was very opinionated. He was took great pride in his family life as a loving father and spent many years instilling wholesome values and principles to his children. He also worked on cars much like his father but his fondest love was working with people and especially when he worked for a social service center for children. When Robert was happy, you could see it by his affectionate smile and gentle laughter. Robert passed due to a short illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leon Ramzy; sister, Orlean Holsome. Survivors include his siblings, Delores Ramzy, Carl Ramzy, Roberta Ramzy, and Timothy Ramzy all of Portland, OR; his four children, Robert H. Ramzy IV of Dallas, TX, Mwenda Uhuru Ramzy Abdullah of Atlanta, GA, Omar Ramzy of Dallas, TX and Bashir Ramzy of San Diego, CA; eight grandchildren, Ismail, Karriem, Yusuf, Tariq, Idris, Elijah, Adam and Dejia; his loving friend and companion, Nicole Anderson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation for Robert will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 6 PM in Baca’s Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Evening Service is scheduled for 7 PM. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10 AM in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue in Fort Bliss, TX with Pastor Dexter Hawkins officiating. Military honors will be accorded by a Fort Bliss Honor Guard.
